Blank Rome Of Counsel Edwin L. Edwards Jr. and Associate Kevin M. Eddy will be speakers at the Allegheny County Bar Association (“ACBA”) 2019 Bench-Bar Conference being held June 13 through 15, 2019, in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania.
Eddie’s session, “The Past, Present, and Future of ‘Amateurism’ in Division I College Athletics” will take place Thursday, June 13, at 2:00 p.m. The session will examine past and current prominent cases that have impacted and continue to impact the concept of “amateurism” in the NCAA. Recent by-laws affecting representation by certified agents (Men’s basketball) as well as the overall “need” for agents in the future will also be covered.
Kevin will be a moderator for the “Be a Better Advocate: Skills Training and Tips for Arguing Motions” panel, will take place Friday, June 14, at as part of the Civil Litigation Skills Training session. The panelists will be Hon. Arnold Klein, Judge, Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, Civil Division; Hon. Donald Walko, Jr., Judge, Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, Civil Division; and Hon. Patrick Connelly, Judge, Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, Civil Division, and they will present tips, techniques, do’s and don’ts with the judges that will be deciding your motions. The program will consist of “what if scenarios,” and there will be plenty of time to ask questions, engage in group discussions, and gain insight from experienced practitioners. In addition, the program will also address implicit bias and its impact on judicial thinking as well as civility between attorneys.
