2021 Federal Bench Bar Conference

Philadelphia Marriott Downtown
1201 Market St
Philadelphia, PA
and Online

Blank Rome partner Jonathan Scott Goldman will serve as a panel moderator at the 2021 Federal Bench Bar Conference, hosted by the Philadelphia Bar Association's Federal Courts Committee with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, being held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with in-person and virtual options on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, from 1:15 to 5:30 p.m. EDT, with a meet and greet reception with judges from the Eastern District of Pennsylvania to follow for in-person attendees.

Jonathan’s session, “Not Just a Brief: Why and How Some Judges Require Motions to Be Presented Differently,” will take place from 1:35 to 2:35 p.m. EDT.

SESSION DESCRIPTION

This panel will examine alternative motion practice—that is, judges who require certain kinds of motions to be presented in atypical ways. This includes, for example, requirements of a pre-motion letter to the Court or conference between the parties, and the procedure that a motion for summary judgment be presented initially in an argument outline rather than a brief.

PANELISTS

  • Honorable Mitchell S. Goldberg, U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania
  • Honorable Cynthia M. Rufe, U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania
  • Moderator: Jonathan Scott Goldman, Esq., Partner and Chair, State Attorneys General Team, Blank Rome, LLP
  • Moderator: Stephen A. Loney, Jr., Esq., Partner, Hogan Lovells
