Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that Judge James T. Giles (Ret.) has been inducted to the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (“NADN”), an invitation-only membership limited to professional mediators and arbitrators who are well established as trusted neutrals among the legal community within their state of practice.
To be considered for induction, all NADN members have met the required stringent practice criteria and are amongst the most in-demand neutrals in their respective states, as nominated by both peers and litigation firms. To view Judge Giles’ NADN profile, please click here.
Judge Giles has a longstanding, distinguished career in the legal community. He was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 1979, where he served for almost 29 years, including as Chief Judge for a full seven-year term, from 1999 through 2006. Before joining the bench in January 1980, Judge Giles practiced at an Am Law 100 firm in Philadelphia, where he was its first African American lawyer in 1968 and became its first African American partner in 1975.
At Blank Rome, Judge Giles focuses his private practice principally on mediation and arbitration matters, local, national, and international in scope. He is active in the firm’s pro bono projects and its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. He is also a board member of two Philadelphia non-profit organizations engaged programmatically in combatting illiteracy and readying teenagers and adults for vocational and college-based career paths.
