Ricky M. Guerra

Biography

Ricky Guerra is a seasoned litigator who concentrates his practice on a wide range of general litigation matters. His experience includes commercial litigation involving breach of contract, fraud, and other business torts, as well as the defense of claims involving medical malpractice, product liability, multidistrict litigation, and mass tort litigation. He also regularly represents businesses defending against claims of wrongful death or catastrophic injury where the exposure exceeds the primary policy limits.

He has practiced in multiple industries including aerospace, automotive, pharmaceutical, nutritional supplements, juvenile products, laboratories, hospitals, dialysis clinics, and restaurants.

Prior to joining Blank Rome, Ricky was a shareholder at a Philadelphia-based law firm, where he focused on personal injury, general liability, medical malpractice, product liability, and commercial litigation.

He has been a certified arbitrator for the Philadelphia Compulsory Arbitration Program since 2008.

Ricky previously served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Lillian H. Ransom of the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas for Philadelphia County. He also held judicial internships with the Honorable Kenneth M. Hoyt of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and Appellate Mediation Program for Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

Outside the Firm

Ricky resides in Lower Merion Township with his wife and three children. Active in his community, Ricky has previously served as President and a member of the board of directors for the Neighborhood Club of Bala Cynwyd, as President and as a member of the Federation of Civics of Lower Merion Township, and as a vestry member for his church. He also enjoys playing pick-up soccer and volunteering to assist the deaf community.

  • Successfully secured settlement on behalf of a commercial tenant alleging constructive eviction.
  • Successfully secured multiple settlements in wrongful death matters against a juvenile product manufacturer.
  • Secured a defense verdict at a bench trial involving claims against an online vehicle reseller.
  • Successfully resolved multiple matters within policy limits that sought to impose personal liability upon the insured.
  • Successful removal to federal court of state filed medical malpractice matter alleging infant birth defects based upon Federal Tort Claims Act and secured a favorable defense settlement as well.
  • Representation of an aeronautical MRO company amidst the imposition of Russian sanctions and breach of contract claims.
  • Represented an airplane manufacturer in multiple suits related to runway excursion and multiple deaths.
  • Secured summary judgment on a cross-claim for common law indemnification from co-defendant.
  • Secured summary judgment on vicarious liability claims against an automotive manufacturer, which was affirmed on appeal.
  • Previously served as interim in-house counsel for a manufacturer of water and wastewater treatment products.
  • Previously served as regional counsel for an automobile manufacturer in matters including franchise disputes, replevin, trademark, negligence, premises liability, and product liability matters including airbag, seat belt, and fire litigation.
  • Previously served as regional and local counsel for a national clinical laboratory services corporation, an airplane manufacturer, nutritional supplement manufacturer, and several brand name and generic pharmaceutical companies.

Professional Activities

Ricky is a member of local bar associations, including the Philadelphia Bar Association. He is a regular volunteer attorney with Philadelphia VIP, and has been recognized by the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania several times as a pro bono honor roll member. He also regularly serves as a mentor for the American Bar Association Judicial Internship Opportunity Program and in 2017 served as the mentor program coordinator for the Philadelphia Region.
