Maryland recently passed a comprehensive data privacy law. Effective October 1, 2025, the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act (MODPA) contains a number of unique provisions that govern the processing of sensitive and children’s data, among other things. These unique provisions, combined with the broad applicability of the law, makes MODPA one of the more operationally challenging privacy laws passed in the United States to date.
